The rebound in Chinook salmon population is estimated at 125,000 fish.

Due to a sharp decline in the fall Chinook, fishing was closed throughout the region in 2008.

In 2009, only 41,000 were recorded, a historic low for the fall Chinook.

The decline resulted in only one month of fishing the past two years.

The expected boom this year paves the way for six months of fishing on the Sacramento, Feather and American rivers.

It was unanimously approved by the Commission at its meeting in Sacramento last Thursday.
